SPECIFIC TO THE 1995 1996 AND 1997 EXPLORER AND THE 1997 MOUNTAINEER IS THE FLORESCENT HIGH BRAKE LAMP AND BALLAST.
THIS WAS DONE BEFORE THE INVENTION OF LED'S FOR 3RD BRAKE LAMPS.
The original OEM florescent bulb and ballast were designed for approximately 8,000 hours of continuous use. The life of the bulb and ballast are substantially reduced when the brake lamp is repeatedly turned on and off. An original used bulb and ballast are now getting close to 15 years old and have little life in them. Because of this, to consider a used bulb or ballast is extremely risky. Bulbs manufactured by Ford, are expensive to replace.
Conversely, new LED bulbs are now designed to have approximately 35,000 hours of use and are extremely affordable.
NOW YOU CAN INSTALL A NEW SET OF REAL BRIGHT LED LIGHTS USING THE EXISTING HOUSING & LENS ASSEMBLY & CONNECTORS THAT REPLACES THE TEMPERAMENTAL FLORESCENT BULB AND BALLAST.
